The first generation of fire and explosion suppression products were made from 3003-H18 alloy foil. Research and use at home and abroad have proved that its mechanical properties can meet the requirements, but the service life is only one year, which is far from meeting the requirements. Therefore, an alloy with higher corrosion resistance and strong resistance to various oil products should be sought. The corrosion resistance of 3xxx series alloys to various oil products is not good, and the use of 1xxx series, 4xxx series, and 8xxx series alloys in oil products and liquefied gas is definitely not ideal.

Moreover, their mechanical properties are not enough to counteract the bumps of automobiles Aircraft vibration; although 2xxx series and 7xxx series alloys have high strength properties, they have low corrosion resistance and cannot be used in practice. Therefore, the second-generation waterproof and explosion-proof aluminum foil can only be found in 5xxx series and 6xxx series alloys.

After years of research, Associate Professor Li Jianguo in Tsinghua from the Department of Materials of the University finally found an alloy that meets the requirements in the 6xxx series alloys. It has strong fire and explosion suppression properties and high corrosion resistance to various oils and liquefied natural gas. Laboratory and road tests have proven that its service life is much longer than that of 3003-H18 alloy foil, and its fire and explosion suppression performance is also better than the first-generation aluminum foil.
